Grant, one of the Directors at Catalyst, possesses extensive expertise in managing large and complex fit-outs for new builds, refurbishments, and building alteration projects in the construction sector.
He is highly regarded as a trusted advisor by clients and industry peers alike.
Grant is based in the Wellington office and is always available to both clients and team members. He inspires his team to excel by encouraging them to express their opinions and providing live support.
Grant has been a valuable member of the Catalyst team since 2004 and is also a member of the Property Council New Zealand - Wellington Regional Committee.

Kayla is a dynamic all-rounder who joined Catalyst in 2009 and has since spent 15 years with the company, including eight years in the Project Management team, gaining a deep understanding of the business.
As a regional manager and a Catalyst Associate, Kayla leads the business operations, overseeing the financials, systems, operations, processes, and people with a hands-on approach.
Her primary objective is to ensure that Catalyst's services are efficient and productive. Kayla is highly motivated and passionate about enhancing the business's performance, striving for excellence in all aspects of the operation as a self-proclaimed vocal perfectionist.
She relishes challenges and takes great pleasure in improving all facets of the business, consistently working smarter to keep Catalyst at the forefront of the industry.

He has a track record of securing significant projects, enhancing stakeholder value and end to end client experience. Lewis’s strong leadership, attention to detail, and strategic acumen ensure precise and efficient project execution. He fosters collaboration among project teams, stakeholders, and subcontractors, resulting in streamlined workflows and optimal outcomes.
As a project director with a background in commercial construction and building refurbishment, Lewis excels in various aspects, including developing business cases, feasibility pricing, client engagement, and supporting the core project management function. Saron is a Quantity Surveyor with three years of experience across both main contractor and subcontractor environments. He holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Construction Management, bringing a strong technical foundation to his work at Catalyst.
With experience in quantity surveying and project coordination, Saron is quick to pick up insights and notice the finer details. This ability to understand information rapidly and accurately supports his day-to-day responsibilities, which include processing tenders, assessing market conditions, and working closely with subcontractors.
Saron began his New Zealand career with an ELV trade background, gaining exposure to data, nurse call, and security systems. This experience allows him to offer valuable technical insight alongside his QS work. He has contributed to major projects including the National Archives Building, the FAS Parliament Building, and Wellington’s Sludge Minimisation Facility.
Motivated by deadlines and the challenge of balancing multiple priorities, Saron enjoys the variety of projects at Catalyst and the energy of the wider team. He sees Catalyst as the ideal environment to grow, learn, and make an impact. Outside of work, Saron spends most of his time cycling and swimming.
Richard Buchan

With experience across a wide range of sectors, Richard has delivered projects in both highly technical, high-security environments and commercial office fit-outs. Sam brings more than a decade of hands-on experience across carpentry, site management, and project management, with a strong background in refurbishment and fit-out projects. Beginning his career on the tools, including five years working on site as a carpenter, Sam developed a deep understanding of structure, sequencing, and finishing quality that now underpins his approach to project delivery.
With strong technical knowledge and a proactive mindset, Sam focuses on identifying risks early and collaborating closely with trades to establish clear programmes and practical methodologies. He thrives on responsibility and leadership, creating structured and efficient environments that set projects up for success before they reach site.
Sam is passionate about accuracy in the early stages of a project, ensuring site managers and subcontractors are equipped for smooth execution and positive outcomes for clients. He values transparency, trust, and delivering a quality result that clients can be proud of long after completion.

With a Master of Construction Management, a Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration and Marketing, and PMP certification, Afzal combines strong technical expertise with commercial insight.
He brings extensive international experience, having managed retail fit-outs across the Middle East and North Africa for global brands such as Hugo Boss, Marks & Spencer, Toys R Us, ExxonMobil, and Siemens. Known for his proactive approach, Afzal is focused on delivering outstanding service and building long-term relationships, often seeing clients return time and again.
Afzal thrives on turning design intent into reality, managing every stage of a project from planning through to completion. He is highly regarded for his ability to interpret drawings, navigate regulatory processes, and deliver seamless outcomes in live and complex environments.

As a former owner and operator of a successful architectural design company, Jack also has robust business management experience, giving him a unique perspective on balancing design, functionality, and project delivery.

He has led major programmes for organisations such as Kāinga Ora, The Building Intelligence Group, and Z Energy, including the delivery of over 200 homes, complex retail rollouts in live environments, and nationwide office fit-outs.
With a background in both architecture and engineering, Andreas offers valuable insight into early-stage planning and stakeholder alignment. Strategic and solutions-oriented, he’s known for empowering teams, driving results, and navigating complex delivery challenges with calm, measured confidence.
Outside of work, Andreas enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors; whether it's mountain biking with his son and their dog, playing tennis, snowboarding in winter, or diving into home renovation projects.
Angie Hamlin-Tuck

Angie is a Senior Project Manager with a Bachelor of Building Science from Victoria University of Wellington and a wealth of experience across construction projects ranging from $500k to over $80 million. She brings a rare blend of adaptability, strategic thinking, and hands-on delivery across a wide range of sectors including government, education, housing, commercial, fuel, and tech.
Angie thrives on turning ideas into tangible outcomes, guiding teams from planning through to construction with a steady, solution-focused approach. Whether navigating complex stakeholder needs or overcoming site challenges, she keeps projects moving forward with creativity and calm.
With experience on both the client and contractor sides, Angie understands the full project lifecycle and brings clarity and momentum at every stage. Her favourite part of the job is seeing the results of hard work take shape in the built environment, and working with people from all walks of life along the way.
Outside of Catalyst, Angie’s world is full of family, sport, and the outdoors. From kids’ weekend matches to skiing, surfing, or mountain biking, she makes the most of every season. She also enjoys getting creative through sewing, whenever she can find a moment to herself.
Whetu Konia

Whetu brings over 30 years of experience in the commercial and construction industries as an electrician. With a strong electrical registration and extensive knowledge of project management, work planning, and scheduling, Whetu effectively supervises both staff and subcontractors to ensure project success. His personable nature fosters collaboration and enhances team dynamics.
Whetu’s favorite part of his work is collaborating with like-minded individuals to achieve common goals and deliver successful projects. He possesses proven skills in writing and computer use, adeptly reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications. His strong problem-solving abilities and time management skills contribute to his effectiveness on the job.
As Site Manager, Whetu liaises closely with the Project Manager and various trades to coordinate projects seamlessly. He appreciates the structured environment at Catalyst, where everyone shares the same goals, fostering a positive culture.
Outside of work, Whetu is an active member of the North Harbour Rugby Referees, enjoys road cycling, and is a passionate All Blacks fan.

Senior Contracts Manager Wellington
Nigel is a Senior Construction Manager with over 30 years of hands-on experience across a wide range of construction projects. Holding a Diploma in Architectural Draughting, a NZ Certificate in Construction (Supervisor Level 4), and a Certificate in Construction – Site Safe NZ, he brings deep technical knowledge and practical expertise to every site he manages.
Nigel enjoys solving construction detailing challenges and finding cost-effective solutions. He has worked on power stations, architectural plaster refurbishments at the Parliament Buildings, office fit-outs, structural building upgrades, re-clads, re-roofing, and has experience as a building inspector. On site, he oversees subcontractors, liaises with consultants and clients, manages safety, and ensures projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
Nigel values the supportive, family-like atmosphere at Catalyst, where teamwork, humor, and a shared commitment to getting the job done make every project rewarding.
Outside of work, Nigel enjoys medieval combat fitting, hunting, working on his lifestyle block, and supporting his wife’s design business.

As a qualified builder with hands-on experience across a wide range of projects, Pat plays a vital role in managing the day-to-day operations on site. He brings a strong focus on client relationships and ensures that every build runs smoothly from start to finish.
Pat enjoys the variety that each day brings at Catalyst and values the opportunity to continue growing within a supportive, team-oriented environment. His favourite part of the job is seeing the satisfaction on clients’ faces when the final result comes together.

Nicole is an experienced designer with a passion for variety. With a broad background that includes successful design work on hotels and casinos in South Africa, aged care facilities in Australia, and recent work on galleries, museums, tourist attractions, hotels, and offices in Auckland, Nicole brings a wealth of experience to every project.
Having completed her interior design qualifications in Durban, South Africa, Nicole's journey has taken her across the world, working on a wide range of commercial and government projects. She joined Catalyst in 2013, where she focused on office upgrades and fit-out projects.
Nicole's designs are always carefully considered and articulated to clients, resulting in well-executed solutions. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including a Silver award for the Arts of Asia Gallery at the Auckland Museum in 2008 when she was with HBO+EMTB, and a Silver award for Constellation Brands (Catalyst) in the Design Awards 2017.
Allan Stevens
Senior Designer Wellington
Allan is an experienced designer with a background in 3-Dimensional Design, specialising in Interior Design.
He started his design career in the UK, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts with Honours. He then worked as an Industrial Designer on secure environments such as prisons and banks, before moving on to work as an Interior Designer on retail and hospitality projects.
After relocating to New Zealand, Allan shifted his focus to commercial office fitouts, warehouse refurbishments and the hospitality sector. In 2014, Allan joined Catalyst as a Senior Designer. In his current role, he is responsible for leading design services throughout the project, working closely with clients to understand their needs, developing conceptual designs, creating detailed documentation for consent and ensuring quality assurance on site.
Allan liaises with consultants and contractors, collaborating with in-house or external Project Managers as required. He takes pride in delivering exceptional results for clients, by transforming their visions into reality.
Vyvienn Steele

Vyvienn is a highly skilled designer with a sophisticated understanding of the interplay between the design process and onsite considerations. With a strong sense of logical design, she has the ability to apply her knowledge to diverse environments.
Joining Catalyst in 2011, Vyvienn brought with her exceptional experience in retail and commercial office design projects. Her brief often includes concept design, developed design, consent submissions, construction documentation, and bespoke furniture design. Her client-focused approach and extensive experience make her a respected and valued team member who is regularly involved in projects from the client briefing stage right through to the final handover.
Melissa Machet
Senior Designer - Workplace Consultancy Wellington
Melissa is a highly experienced Senior Designer and Workplace Consultant with over 25 years in the interior design industry. Holding a Diploma of Higher Education in Interior Design affiliated with Nottingham Trent University in the UK, she brings a strong combination of creative, technical, and commercial expertise to every project.
Melissa has worked across a diverse international portfolio, including projects in Dubai, South Africa, Ghana, and Washington. Her experience spans not only design delivery, but also team leadership, office management, and the development of systems and standards to elevate overall performance.
She is passionate about guiding projects from concept through to completion, consistently delivering high-quality outcomes that meet programme, budget, and client expectations. Known for her leadership and mentorship, Melissa enjoys supporting designers to perform at their best while building strong, lasting relationships with clients.
Melissa thrives on collaboration and values the opportunity to contribute across all stages of a project, from early workplace strategy through to delivery. She is particularly driven by client engagement, problem solving, and seeing projects come together successfully.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending time with family and friends, supporting her children’s sports and school activities, and making the most of quieter moments with walks outdoors.
Drew Blair

With over 30 years of design experience and a Diploma of Industrial Design, Drew brings a wealth of knowledge to Catalyst. His diverse experience includes work in government, residential, hospitality, product design, commercial workplace design, stage and screen set design, and even the interior of a Cook Strait ferry. He has also worked on window displays for Selfridges on Oxford Street in London.
As a Senior Designer at Catalyst, Drew's responsibilities include meeting with clients, taking their briefs, and creating preliminary design concepts, as well as managing accounts. He enjoys the creative space planning and design aspects of his role and values building long-term relationships with clients, suppliers, and other consultants. Drew believes that shared experiences bring incredible value to a project.

She is a Licenced building practitioner D2 with a background in architectural drafting and visual and applied arts. Natasha brings together her love of mathematics and construction with her eye for creative design to produce lively and dynamic architectural solutions.
Throughout her career, Natasha has worked on a diverse range of commercial, educational, and government projects. Her portfolio includes new builds, office refurbishments, youth care and protection facilities, factories, warehouses, residential homes, and heritage buildings such as Parliament House and the Parliamentary Library.

She was awarded the prestigious $15,000 Victoria University of Wellington - Masters by Thesis Scholarship for her research on converting warehouse spaces in New Zealand into residential apartments.

Meet Hayley Minshull, a creative and detail-oriented designer with a Bachelor of Interior Architecture. Her passion lies in transforming existing spaces into new and exciting ones, and she enjoys the challenge that comes with it.
Fresh on the design scene after graduating from university, Hayley has a customer service background that enables her to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues. As a Junior Designer, she supports the senior team by drawing up as-builts and brainstorming innovative concept ideas.
Hayley loves working with a small team where she can interact with everyone and learn from her colleagues. In a short amount of time, she has already gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in her role.
When she's not designing, Hayley can be found taking her dogs on walks, exploring her creative side through painting and drawing, whipping up delicious baked goods, or hitting the gym to stay active.
Stephanie Widjaja

Meet Stephanie, a creative force and one of our Senior Designers at Catalyst. With a Bachelor of Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture Prof. (Hons) from the University of Auckland, Steph is passionate about all things design and architecture. This passion drives her to continually learn and craft innovative, creative spaces that not only meet client expectations but also create those unforgettable 'wow' moments.
Steph's journey began in Melbourne, where she honed her skills working on high-end residential houses and international hotel projects. Over the past six years, she has focused on commercial office projects, collaborating with both small and large corporations, as well as retail and healthcare clients. Her expertise extends to designing spaces that align with clients' needs and workflows, preparing documentation for council approvals, and overseeing construction in partnership with the project management team.
Steph was drawn to the forward-thinking, modern aesthetic of Catalyst. Now, as a valued team member, she enjoys being part of a dynamic, fun, and hardworking group. Outside of work, Steph loves playing video games and exploring new adventures with her two boys, cherishing the quality time they spend together.
Laura Becker

Laura returned to New Zealand after studying Visual Communication Design and spending some time in Australia. She further pursued her passion by studying Interior Architecture and joined Catalyst in 2020.
At Catalyst, Laura works on a variety of projects, including government and commercial projects, where she focuses on documentation ready for consent and working drawings. With her strong work ethic, Laura is committed to completing all tasks set before her to a high standard.
Grace Alexander
Senior Architectural Designer Wellington
Grace joined Catalyst in 2018 and brings a wealth of experience in local government, community facilities, earthquake strengthening, as well as working with government entities and commercial clients. She enjoys building relationships and rapport with clients and is known for her relaxed style that puts them at ease. Grace is also calm under pressure, making her an asset to larger-scale projects.
With a passion for creativity and sustainability, Grace focuses on incorporating natural elements into her designs and is strategic with space planning. She is particularly interested in heritage buildings and takes into consideration the existing elements of a building when creating clever designs.
Grace holds a Bachelor of Architectural Studies in Interior Architecture, a Diploma of Creative Technologies in Fine Arts, and Graduate Diploma of Designed Environments in Architecture and is a Licenced building practitioner in Design Level 2. She firmly believes that there is no problem that cannot be resolved, which aligns perfectly with her work philosophy.
Hannah Sapwell
Junior Designer Auckland
Hannah is a Junior Designer with a strong foundation in both residential and commercial interior design. She holds two Diplomas of Interior Design from Unitec and is a member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand. Hannah also brings a unique background in education, having previously completed a Bachelor of Education and spent seven years teaching before transitioning into the design industry.
With strengths in organisation, communication, and project coordination, Hannah brings a structured and people-focused approach to her role. She was recognised during her studies with a Unitec School of Architecture Award for highly commended performance in residential design.
Hannah is a thoughtful problem solver who enjoys getting to know each client’s needs and aspirations. Her focus is on creating spaces that are both functional and visually engaging, ensuring design solutions respond carefully to the brief. She values collaboration and works closely with suppliers, clients, and the wider Catalyst team throughout the design process.
Outside of work, Hannah enjoys a wide range of creative pursuits including pottery and concrete sculpture. She also loves cycling, reading, listening to podcasts, spending time at the beach, and keeping up with her son’s imaginative Connetix builds and games.
Lana McCormick
Workplace Strategy | Designer Wellington
Lana is Catalyst's Workplace Strategist and Designer, holding a Master of Interior Architecture and a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from Victoria University of Wellington. Her role involves proactively responding to design challenges and adapting workflow to suit clients' needs.
Passionate about bringing wellness to all built environments, Lana sees client satisfaction and problem-solving (either technical or spatial) as key to achieving this goal. She listens and engages throughout the design process, working to refine clients' key drivers alongside the spatial design development, then focuses on the end-users' engagement with spatial change.
Lana has developed her career across workplace, healthcare, and community architecture both overseas and in New Zealand. In the UK, she worked extensively in the communication sector alongside Virgin Media and BT Group, delivering workplace strategies that cohesively integrated brand identity. Upon returning to New Zealand, she worked in the healthcare sector, collaborating with clients throughout the Waikato on a regeneration project of healthcare facilities.
Lana was a finalist in the Best Awards 2022 in the following categories:

Outside of work, Lana enjoys hiking, hockey, brunching, and horse riding to stay active.
