Meet Angie Hamlin-Tuck: Collaborative Senior Project Manager
Meet Angie Hamlin-Tuck, one of Catalyst’s experienced and authentic Senior Project Managers.
Angie brings people together through trust, collaboration, and clear communication, while staying true to her down-to-earth and approachable style. We sat down with Angie to learn more about her approach, what drives her, and the experiences that continue to shape her mahi.
Q: What experiences have shaped how you work today?
A: Honestly, a mix of everything, life and career. Playing sport at an international level taught me that if there’s a clear, shared goal, you can work effectively with anyone. Early in my career, I worked in the contractor environment, which was very male-dominated at the time. Having strong female role models and supportive peers gave me the confidence to ask questions, extract the right information, and foster openness with others. And becoming a mother has been hugely influential, it’s made me adaptable and able to juggle urgent, shifting priorities while always keeping an eye ahead to prevent the next “emergency.”
Q: How would you describe your approach to project management?
A: For me, it’s all about teamwork. Building strong, trust-based relationships helps projects thrive; especially when programmes are tight or challenges arise. Clear communication and collaboration are key, but so is authenticity. I like to show up as myself and let my personality be part of how I work with others.
Q: What part of the project lifecycle excites you most?
A: Definitely construction. It’s gritty, fast-paced, and challenges pop up daily, but that’s what makes it so rewarding. It’s the phase where all the planning comes to life, where the whole team pulls together, and where problem-solving is at its peak. Seeing a client step into their new space and enjoy what’s been created is the ultimate reward.
Q: Do your personal interests influence your practice?
A: While not directly, I’m always curious about how innovation can work alongside more traditional construction methods. I like exploring new ways of doing things and seeing how they can improve outcomes for projects and teams.
Q: How do you approach solving a problem?
A: I like to break problems down and look at them from different angles. I start by bringing the team together to define the issue and gather ideas. From there, I dig deeper with the key players; testing assumptions, asking questions, and making sure we’ve got the right information. Once we do, I consolidate the options and present clear recommendations to decision-makers. Collaboration is at the heart of the process, it always leads to better outcomes.
Q: What advice would you give to someone stepping into project management?
A: Build strong relationships early, they’ll serve you well when challenges come up. Take the time to understand what drives your stakeholders so you can tailor your communication to be clear, efficient, and effective. At the end of the day, it’s people who make projects succeed.
Q: What fills your cup outside of work?
A: I love being outdoors with my family, whether it’s days at the beach in summer or ski trips in winter. From the sea to the mountains, getting out into nature is what keeps me balanced and recharged.
